Outbreak

Over the years Wolfgang Peterson has given us some of the most thought provoking movies to hit the screen. With this techno-thriller he has brought to the forefront the issues of biological weapons, infectious diseases and the ability of the government to cover up what ever it wants to. With an all-star cast to drive the film, the story hits you between the eyes and never lets up until the end. An infectious disease has been found in a small California town, and is so strong and deadly that if its not stopped, in 48 hours it will sweep across the nation. The tension and the feelings of hopelessness in the film just come right off the screen and never lets go of you. There are some chase scenes that are done quite well, and with Peterson at the helm you wouldn't expect any less. The helicopter chase scenes are expertly done and you have a hard time coming away from it without the feeling of vertigo.
In the 90s when the idea that we could be wiped out by a virus that was so vicious that by the time you realized that you had it you were dead was one of the most frightening things to imagine. This film brought all of those thoughts and fears into focus and laid them out in the open for us to see how truly terrifying the situation could be. This movie is as important today as it was in 1995, diseases like Ebola are still out there and could kill off thousands of people if given the chance. Organizations like the CDC and the USAMRIID, are working every day so that we wont have to live with this fear, but with movies like this it helps put things in perspective.
