Trying to move beyond one line dialog and into characters that have a little bit more in the way of substance, Arnold Schwarzenegger showed that he could carry a storyline that didn't need him to be flexing muscles all of the time. Here the character has a brain that needs to be in thinking mode at all times and with this we're able to see that even though its still an action film Arnold carries the dialog and the character persona to the point of perfection. Since this is more of a chase film we're given a number of situations that are well within the realm of possibility and this helps with the believability that this story could happen.
John Kruger is a U.S. Marshal that works in their Witness Protection dept. and he has just been brought in on a case of selling illegal military arms that may cost him and his witness their lives. The three-way team of Arnold, James Caan and Vanessa Williams works so well in this film that you can see how versatile their acting abilities are. But out of the three, Caan as the bad guy comes across so well that even as his character is betraying Arnold he does it with an air of class that very few actors could pull off. The stunts that are performed in this film are at times breathtaking, driving out of an airborne plane after his parachute is just one of them.
Not that this was a big departure for Arnold, it's still a blow'em up action film, but at least he has more than one line dialog and when he does speak he seems like he knows what he's talking about. I'm not saying that the next stop should have been Shakespeare but you can see the beginning of him breaking out of the role of a muscle bound idiot that just went around destroying things. This is a fun movie to watch, some of it's predictable some of it's not but you will enjoy yourself from beginning to end.
