As the football season is winding down, I wanted to sit and watch one of the best comedies about football out there and you can't get any funnier than this. With strong actors like Gene Hackman and Keanu Reeves, this is one of those laugh riots that gets started from the very beginning all the way to the very end. All of the situations that are presented in the movie are completely believable and at times, you wonder if some of these things haven't at one time or another really happened. When the pro football players go on strike, four games out of the play-offs, the owners decide to use replacement players to finish off the season, with some mixed results. The supporting cast of characters that are assembled here can't really be matched anywhere else. Jon Favreau as the uncontrollable linebacker keeps the energy level high and you have a hard time coming down from it. The football sequences are very realistic and at times you find yourself cheering the players on as if it was a real game. The added spice of the cheerleading squad having to be replaced by ex-strippers is funny in its own right, and a welcome sight at times.
This is one the funniest football movies in a long time, and ranks right up there with the best sports film out on the market. Once I saw this film I couldn't help but fall in love with it, between the lovability of the characters and the teamwork of the underdogs coming through in the end, is just perfect. So if your looking for a movie to watch that has some great football moments this is it, just remember, "Pain heals, Chicks dig scars, and Glory lasts forever."
