TMNT
With the leaps and bounds that CGI technology has taken over the past couple of decades it wasn't too startling that movies that would normally use an actor in a costume, or a traditionally animated character, would be made within an entirely CGI generated world. After years of waiting for a fourth film the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are brought back to the big screen with a vengeance. The storyline here picks up sometime after the third live-action film and gives the audience a tale that's worthy of the original comics.
After a year of soul searching, Leonardo returns to New York to help his brothers, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo, to defeat a demented immortal madman from destroying the world. The CGI environment that was developed for this film was extremely well done, between the chase scenes and the fight sequences, there are times that you lose yourself in the city and accept everything around you. Also having very recognizable characters to see in this new dimension helps with the acceptability of the environment that they are in. Without having to worry about actors in suits the fight sequences are more involved and action packed than you would normally see in a movie of this type.
These characters are so well known that there was no reason to rehash the origin, which was good so that there was no way that the original storyline would be altered. Leaving small hints throughout the film allows for this franchise to continue to entertain and inspire the young children that watch these characters. These characters that were created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird have gone from comic books to television to movies, and have evolved along the way in ways that were probably never conserved of in the beginning. Now after all this time of having them as part of our pop culture its hard to imagine someone not knowing who the Ninja Turtles are, but with this introduction into a CGI format of movie making turtle power will continue to be a driving force for a young audience. Cowabunga dudes.
