Doomsday

Most of the time when film makers start to combine elements from different films to make a new one the whole idea becomes watered down and unfortunately unwatchable. Yet here we have some of the best elements from highly successful films (Mad Max, 28 Days Later and Resident Evil) and it works, just the right amount of new material blended with original content gives us a fast paced story that's enjoyable from the opening scenes
30 years after a murderous plague kills British citizens in a walled off city the government sends in a team when there appears to be signs of survivors. With a film like this the acting usually falls to the way side in order to put more emphasis on the action, but with Bob Hoskins and Malcolm McDowell the performances from everyone involved are stepped up a notch. The lead role is taken on by Rhona Mitra, who is no new comer to the film industry but the performance that she turns out should launch her into roles that may have been pushed aside at one time.
Here we have another movie with a strong female lead, good story and unfortunately it didn't make any money in order to continue the story with a sequel. Some of the aspects of the plot are a little far fetched but isn't that what most of us are looking for in a good sci-fi story, something to ask the question "What If?' and also suspend believability. So with all the fasted paced action, car chases and more apocalyptic mayhem than you can shake a stick at this is definitely one of those movies to check out.
