Revolver

Showing that he really knows the crime thriller genre, Guy Ritchie gives the audience another thrilling and stylish drama that keeps you asking just what is going on. Much like Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction, there is more going on in the movie than just the straight forward story. There are times that you're left scratching your head wondering what just happened but the storyline is so well constructed that you're happy to do a little thinking instead of having everything handed to you. The lead actor in this thriller is Jason Statham, from Transporter and War, and he executes this role with all the style and flair of a well seasoned actor.
When Jake is released from prison early he vows to bring down the crime boss that killed his sister-in-law, but when things turn bad a mysterious duo step in and saves Jakes life. Ritchie does a magnificent job at blending the action with the drama and not letting either overpower the other, and when a little bit of mystery is needed just enough is added to spice things up. Along with Statham on this ride is Ray Liotta as the crime boss and he pulls off one of the best roles of his career. This tanning obsessed gangster with a nervous twitch was a great part for him and plays wonderfully against Statham's down on his luck ex-con.
Statham takes his acting in an entirely different direction then most audience members would normally see him in, where this is not a martial arts film he relies on his dramatic acting and does an outstanding job. The story moves along very quick and there are plot devices throughout the tale so you need to watch for them. But its not something to be worried about, as the story unfolds everything is explained to you and by the end you'll be wondering how you would faired if you were in the same position.
