Writers are always looking for new and interesting ways to write love stories, and sometimes the best stories are the ones that have been around for a long time and just not told in the correct way. This story involves the personal life of Beatrix Potter which in some ways is more interesting than the stories that are being pushed out of Hollywood nowadays. This film blends a nice amount of fantasy, from her writings, and her real life that begins to turn around for her once she gets her first book in print.
While working with her publisher on her first book, Beatrix Potter, in her thirties, falls in love with him and embarks on a love that she thought once out of reach. Using her ability of adapting to the character that she's playing, Renee Zellweger shines in this role. Showing the versatility of the woman that most of us only know from her books, we're given a glimpse into the world that she had to overcome in order to have her dreams come true. Ewan McGregor plays the publisher/love interest and hits on a role that fits his style of acting. Chris Noonan the director brings out such wonderful performances from each and every actor that by the end of the film your left wanting to see more of the story.
It's always interesting to see how far an actress, or actor, will go to fit into the character that they are portraying, and Zellweger does it by far the best. From gaining weight for Bridget Jones' Diary to having her facial features altered to resemble Potter, she goes above and beyond what's expected of her for the role and it shows the dedication she has for the craft of acting. I don't usually go out searching for movies that are mainly about love stories, but this story looked interesting and I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Usually biographies try to tell the audience everything that it possibly can in the time allotted, here we're given only one event in her life but it's done in a way that your left wondering what happened before and after that incident.
