Sometimes when a studio teams-up actors for a film the chemistry just isn’t there and then there are times that the pair meld so well together that it’s movie magic. Here the pairing isn’t exactly movie magic but it’s damn close, watching Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz race around in this Mission Impossible-lite movie is just pure fun. With all of the intrigue of most spy films and the action that you would expect from a good chase movie and then add in some really well timed comedy, then you have a film that can be re-watched over and over again.
When June becomes intrigued by a mysterious man, she is unexpectedly dragged into a whirlwind adventure involving devious enemies, life-threatening situations and a discovery that may change the course of mankind. James Mangold, the director, has given us an extremely enjoyable film with an outstanding blend of action and comedy that is very hard to find in film today. Some of the action sequences happen so fast that you want to watch them again to capture the thrill of the moment and to make sure you didn‘t miss anything. Cruise, outside his Mission character, shows that he still has what it takes to carry an action film, and Diaz brings to the screen the ability to keep pace with Cruise in all of the action sequences, which very few actresses can do.
This film is pretty much a whole package action movie, we have a beautiful heroine, a handsome hero, sometimes more action than you can shake a stick at and then the comedy that seems so well timed it’s almost natural. The one thing that keeps this film moving is the story itself, it’s not allowed to slow down to the point of stalling and the scenes just roll into the next. You can’t go wrong with this film, it works on so many levels it could please so many people, it’s a date film, and a family film all rolled into one.
Enjoyed this movie. Ending gave the warm fuzzy's that I look for in Action/Romance movies.
