Silver Hawk

There are some films that are just not released the right way and the target audience is lost from the very beginning. This film was shot more in the style of a TV movie that would eventually be turned into a series, and with a strong actress like Michelle Yeoh in the lead role as the Silver Hawk it would have had a good chance at success. But when a movie like this is released theatrically it loses something and the audience feels like they've been let down and then all of a sudden by word of mouth the film falls through the cracks and there's nothing but bad press. Yet in a world dominated by male heroes its refreshing to see a female hero that doesn't pull any punches and comes out just as strong as any male counterpart.
When a scientist is kidnapped and his invention is turned into a device to control the minds of the world, it's the vigilante Silver Hawk who streaks onto the scene to try and save the day. One of the things that this film has a problem with is that a lot of the action sequences are slowed down and for martial arts fight scenes it ends up looking fake and cartoonish. With so many martial arts films out on the market, this film should have done better, especially with an actress and martial arts expert like Yeoh involved in the producing as well as the acting.
Even with the star power of Yeoh this film did not attract the audience the film makers were hoping, but maybe if they thought out the advertising campaign a little better, or maybe shot the action sequences a little less cartoonish then it may have done better. If you watch this film for what it is, a child's super hero come to life, and don't expect much more beyond that, then you'll have some fun watching this movie.
