Speed Racer

The remaking of old television shows have been hit or miss, and when they've missed its usually the fact that the film makers have gone to far in updating, or expanding, the story itself. The ones that hit the mark are the ones that don't stray to far from the proven formula that the fans have grown to love. This remake is so on the mark it's ridicules, it is truly the classic cartoon come to life. The Wachowski Brothers have recreated the extravagant world from the 60s animated story that captured the imagination of a generation of children, and now with this spectacular film a new generation will be amazed and inspired.
After winning his first big race Speed Racer is approached by a huge corporation to drive for them, but when he realizes that they world domination in mind he teams up with Racer X to stop them. With the use of modern CGI technology The Wachowski Brothers were able to bring to life the fantastic world and race tracks of Speed Racer, and with this the "stunt racing" that was a big part of the cartoon series. Beyond the acting, which is right on target for the characters, and the storyline, which mirrors the plots from the series, the CGI that is used pushes the film into the next level of film making.
Even though this film received a PG rating there isn't any more violence in it than any number of cartoons that are on the TV today. With this rating the film missed its target audience and therefore got thrown into the pile by parents that believed that the film would be to much for their children. If you remember the cartoon series you'll enjoy this movie, the story stays faithful to the original series , but what takes this film to the next level is the CGI effects. These effects take the audience far beyond where the cartoon series did visually, but with all of the fast paced action and the faster paced racing this is an entirely new experience as fun and exciting as you'll remember.
