The Three Musketeers (Disney)
There are some of the classics that were just born to be made into movies, that carry all of the adventure and action that most modern stories just don't have. With characters that are likable from the very beginning this story of four comrades against a corrupt system. Over the years their have been a number of different versions of this story produced, going as far back as the silent era of film making and there was even an animated series done for the Banana Splits Show in the late 60s. Now this version, produced by Disney, takes all of the elements that made the book a success and the parts of the film adaptations that made it fun and exciting to watch and added a little modernization, and instantaneously we have an immediate hit.
Young D'Artagnan joins up with the three surviving musketeers to save France from invasion and the King from assassination by Cardinal Richelieu. This film has a cast of actors most directors would scream for, with Kiefer Sutherland, Oliver Platt, Charlie Sheen, Chris O'Donnell, and Tim Curry gives the story a flair that is second to none. The choreography of the fight scenes is so well done its amazing that no one was seriously hurt, from the fist fights to the sword play each and every actor showed the skill and talent of experienced performers. Even with all of the talent involved with this film the stand out performance is delivered by Curry, his portrayal of the Cardinal is so sinister that at times you can almost see the venom dripping from his lips.
This film harkens back to the days of honest film making, what I mean is that everything that you see on the screen is really there, no green screen or computer special effects to enhance the scenes. And with this realistic setting the story is a little more enjoyable to watch. This is one of those films that aged well over time and even as the years roll on and another generation of children discover The Three Musketeers, we'll their immortal words ring out "All for One, and One for All."

So often I will re watch a film years later and be shocked that I EVER enjoyed the film. This one far exceeds my expectations and I enjoy it each time I watch. This a family classic my entire family enjoys and one that is often chosen for family movie night.
